    So stoked that I chose these little guys! I’m always so scared to grow flowers because I have a shady yard but these seem to be perfect! And the for me too it’s the funnest to propagate! Do you think it will life through winter if I bring a cutting indoors for winter and start new every spring? The annual and perennial thing always confuses me because of climate zones. Thanks for the wonderful info! 🙏

    I live in the U.S. in zone 6 and I am reading that the bulbs need dug up every year or they will die in the winter. Are you telling me that with a bit of mulch I can leave these bulbs in the ground and they will not die during the winter cold?

    • @GrowParadise
      @GrowParadise День тому

      Mulch helps to protect them from penetrating cold, but in severe freezes and long winters it might not work. I'm growing them in Zone 9 in the UK.

    I Went on a bromeliad splurge after seing your videos, and for those who are interested here is a list of the bromeliads that were mostly unscathed when overwintered in an unheated greenhouse in South London this past winter. Temperatures went down to -3 on several occasions, but were always above freezing in the day: Bilbergia nutans, Bilbergia x windii, Aechmea recurvata "Paraguay", and under the bench but unfleeced, Neoregelia "Donger", taking a bit of damage to a very young leaf, growing away strongly now, Neoregelia "Fireball", loss of the rosette level with the compost which may have got wet, the other rosette unscathed. Vriesea lubbersii, damage to youngest leaves at the heart of rosette, but central bud still ok, Aechmea gamosepala Aechmea cylindrata. Plants were kept mostly dry. All the plants started healthy growth in the spring.

    my plant leaves are turning yellow and falling off. I've read it can be too much water or not enough water. Any way to figure this out? The plant was in a pot I thought might have been too small so I transplanted it into a bigger pot and added granular organic fertilizer in the dirt. Not quite sure what else to do.

    • @GrowParadise

      Brugmansia need LOTS of feeding, preferably twice a week. The leaves will quickly turn yellow if it is under fed.

    Although I loathe every shade of purple, I think in this garden it looks absolutely fabulous! One think I would not do is pressure wash any kind of concrete slab/tiles. In my opinion aged concrete looks infinitely better than “brand new” (or newly washed) concrete. Other than that, I think your garden is just beautiful!❤

    • @GrowParadise

    I am so glad for this channel. I actually moved to the Ecuadorian Andes and cannot find a lot of books or gardening channels for designing gardens here. I recognize so many of the plants you have are available right in my backyard, literally. You might be surprised to find many English style gardens here with the plants you'd find in the UK. I guess like many places, people want the exotic plants for their gardens. In this case, lavender and rosemary, English roses and primroses. Sub tropical gardens in the Andes is not as popular as you might think, even though many of the plants are indigenous to the country I live in. Actually finding written resources on on garden design here does not exist. For example how big does an Elderberry grow in the Andes? There is a lot of information for Elderberry trees on the internet and they are considered a shrub, at a maximum of around 3m but not any for Andes gardening (FYI an Elderberry tree grow to be around 9m here). And I've yet come across professional landscapers. So your channel is incredibly important to me. Thank you

    • @magentamagenta1274
      @magentamagenta1274 5 днів тому

      @tinak3271 Interesting but elderberry are trees and another variety is a shrub, European elderberry (Sambucus nigra) and the American elderberry (Sambucus canadensis. The berries contain cyanide when raw so need to be boiled for at least 30 minutes. Also not recommended for diabetics or auto immune disease as they can raise insulin levels.

    looks better than my yard and i live in Florida , Great job. Dark colors are great for the outside because once the sun is out it lightens up a bit and shifts hue throughout the day i used a dark Teal color for the shed. those fuchsias and cigar plants or cupheas the orange ones should do really good they love cool weather. I lose all my fuchsias come March after it gets into the 80s and high humidity. that Mexican cigar may do great in a planter as well it gets 3ft by 3ft does well down to about low 40s if you want it as a stand alone and don't want to lose it come winter. my issue here is the high humidity come summer and the high 90s

    I was in B&Q the other day and walked past the Damson paint, I thought 'oh hi Craig' haha. How well do your raised beds drain? I assume you amended the clay a lot. I think you're absolutely right about having robust plants that thrive in UK weather - I've planted a hybrid tea rose called Piccadilly and it's a very tropical swirl of bright orange and yellow. Fits in great.

    Couple of points Craig. As a sparky it worries me that you’ve mentioned the plug isn’t waterproof, but you’re running with 2 cables still coiled up. This is dangerous and is a fire risk as the cables act like a coil and heat up. The lid issue isn’t that bad. The weight of the lights cause it when you open a lid. I just put my finger and thumb between the lids and prise them back apart again. Simple 👍
